Young people will sometimes experiment with drugs for a variety of reasons:
- To feel part of the crowd.
- Because they enjoy taking risks.
- Because they are curious.
- Because they are bored.
This does not always mean they will develop a serious drug problem.
What can you do?
- Don't panic.
- Talk to them calmly (try not to lecture or lose your temper).
- Choose the right time to talk (not when they are obviously "stoned" or "drunk").
- Listen to what they have to say.
- Make sure you have up to date information about drugs.
